Some things you never outgrow – like playing in the mud.

Well, okay, as an adult I've graduated to clay, but it's still the same concept. Creating with clay both relaxes me and feeds my creativity.

Incidentally, I used several of my favorite clay pots as background for the WWD Web site. I took an image like the one on the right and played with the colors to make them more intense and graphic. Enlarged and with altered colors, the images made perfect abstract backgrounds for my website.
The bowl on the left was recently thrown and is still on the wheel. It is thrown with speckled stoneware. I had a breakthrough recently and was suddenly able to throw larger pieces like this one (guess what everyone got for Christmas!). The pot is about 11 inches across. It will shrink 10-12% in the firing process.
On the left is a glazed bowl. On the right that same bowl fired in an electric kiln to cone 6. Amazing to see such vivid colors come out of such bland-looking glazes.
