Namotu 2005

The usual suspects came together from Del Mar for the annual trek to Namotu. After a nearly waveless winter the boys were pretty eager to get to Fiji and play in some real waves.

The guys are in position to guard our bags. When the group leaving the island comes in there is a lot of activity as the boats are unloaded and then reloaded. No one wants to get to the island and find out their boards went home with the Roxie girls! The inset photo shows some of the Roxie crew coming in.

We are waiting for the Namotu boats to come and pick us up. The low tide totally exposes a large area near the beach. We're about 300 yards from the shore line!

Tim and Vanessa are from Australia. They are expecting their first baby this year.

On the right is the shore line as it looked the day we arrived in Fiji. On the left is the same shore line on our way out of Fiji.

Scott is sitting in front of our buree. It is a private bungalow with it's own bath. The shot below is the view in the morning from our room.

Our professional surfer, Scott, demonstrates the proper descent on the 10 and 12 foot waves that we were blessed with in Fiji this year! The waves were a little too steep for Karin, but she did get in one stellar day of boogie boarding. Snorkeling, napping, drinks by the pool, and massages by Agee rounded out the days.

After a day in the surf and sun Karin and Scott are ready to share happy hour and dinner with the local surf god.

Scott presented the Fijians with an offering of Kava - in thanks for their hospitality. They thanked us and wished our group "much prosperity". After some Kava drinking and dinner we danced.

Caro, a first time Kava drinker, doesn't look convinced that she really is supposed to swallow the stuff!

Scott is pretty much speaking for the group when he expresses his reluctance to be heading home.

We have a full day to spend in Nadi before we fly out Saturday night. Most of us got day rooms and hung out at the pool hotel near the airport. Scott and some buddies went off on an adventure. We don't have photos, but Alex, Paul and Scott went to see a Rugby match that the Namotu Blues were playing in. They said the game was fantastic and that our guys did a great job beating the local police team.
