Parque Nacional Santa Rosa, Dec 2005

We took a day trip from Playa Grande to visit Parque Nacional Santa Rose. The ride up there was great and the park itself was wonderful.

This was our first hike in the dry tropical forest (who knew?). Looks like the woods back home with a dash of palms, orchids and ferns tossed in.

We had lunch next to a little bat cave. They were pretty active and vocal, even though it was the middle of the day.

Jeff and Donna, Scott and Karin taking a break at the end of a trail.

This is a view of the Playa Naranjo beach and the famous Witches' Rock surf site.

Our model, Donna, is illustrating the results of trying to cross the treacherous terrain on foot. Scott, our daring driver, demonstrates the preferable method to transverse the perilous park roads. FYI - this wasn't the worst part of the road and we were warned that the road to the beach was "really bad". We didn't have time to check it out but we're willing to take her word for it.
