Royalty-free (RF) means you pay only once for the image and can use it for multiple projects over an unlimited period of time. It's a very inexpensive way to add an illustration to your piece.

Rights-managed (RM) means you need to pay every time you use the image. Yes, it's more expensive. But, those higher license fees will keep that image from saturating the market, thus allowing you to connect it more powerfully to your brand.
